Philippe Dauman
President and CEO, Viacom

Philippe Dauman was named president and chief executive officer of Viacom in September 2006 and has served on the company’s board of directors since 1987. Offering programming and content for motion pictures, television and digital platforms, Viacom’s brands include MTV Networks (MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, Comedy Central, CMT: Country Music Television, Spike TV, TV Land, Logo and more than 130 networks around the world), BET Networks, Paramount Pictures, Paramount Home Entertainment, DreamWorks and Famous Music. While Viacom is actively working to use the Internet as a distribution vehicle for its programming, under Mr. Dauman’s leadership, the company recently sued Google for $1 billion, alleging copyright violations at Google’s YouTube site—which should make for an interesting juxtaposition with his fellow D speakers, Eric Schmidt, Google’s CEO; and Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, the founders of YouTube. Mr. Dauman earned his bachelor’s degree from Yale College in 1974 and his law degree from Columbia University Law School in 1978.
